OtherHand Recording

My tracking room, OtherHand Recording, remains a hub of creative activity. It’s where I write, produce, record, mix and master records for independent artists, and where I make my own.

For singer-songwriters and bands who want a record that sounds like them: honest, uncluttered and finished properly.

What I can do for your songs

Book one part, or bring the whole project from the first line to the final master.

  • Songwriting

Bring a verse, a hook or a voice memo. We sit down and write until it is a finished song with a shape you are proud of.

  • Production

Arrangements built around the song: vocals out front and only what the song needs. When a tune calls for more, I have a large and wonderful network of players to call on.

  • Recording

Vocals and instruments tracked in my own room, OtherHand Recording, with a dedicated vocal booth and a full control room.

  • Mixing

Mixes that give every part room to breathe, so the voice and the song carry the record.

  • Mastering

The final pass that makes a record sound finished on every speaker. If you’re making a record, don’t skimp on this part.

How a project starts

  1. Write to me

Use the contact form or email me. Tell me about the songs, where they are now and what you hear in your head.

  2. Send the songs

A demo, a voice memo or a lyric sheet is plenty. A link to your SoundCloud or a shared folder works well.

  3. Plan the record

We talk through what the songs need, from writing help to mixing and mastering, and decide where to start.

“Songs must breathe to be truly great.”

Jeff Kossack

The ears after the ears

On my own records, Alf Rodenas mixed and Marc DeSisto mastered, and they made the music better than I could have on my own. As I said of Marc’s mastering: if you’re making a record, do not skimp on this part.
